Barry Sanders was one of the best to ever do it. Sanders accomplished numerous records and accolades during his career. He became the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in each of his first ten seasons. He also held the record for the most consecutive seasons leading the league in rushing yards (4).
Barry Sanders announced his retirement from the NFL before the 1999 season at the age of 30. Despite being in his prime and having several productive years ahead, he cited personal reasons and a desire to leave the game on his own terms.
